I realize that there are many vegetarian-friendly restaurants in Philadelphia.  If your restaurant is not listed here, it is because, A, the restaurant is not entirely plant-based; or, B, it is entirely plant-based and I’m unaware of it!  Feel free to inquire.

You forgot Govinda’s and Maoz. Govinda’s has the best cheesecake.

I did not forget Govinda’s or Maoz. This listing is for plant-based restaurants only. Due to Govinda’s and Maoz NOT being dairy- and egg-free, they are not “peacefully approved.” If they choose to remove the exploitative products from their menu, I will add them!

Do you have any idea which of these restaurants which would be safe for me? I have Celiac Disease. I am coming to Phila. for a conference in about a week and would love to know about any Vegan Gluten free safe restaurants. Thanks!

  4. cheriej Says:

If I had to choose one, Ellen, I would go with Essene, http://www.essenemarket.com. Second choice would be Horizons. But for either place, I would call beforehand just to make sure they have something that is suitable for you! Good luck. :)

  6. cheriej Says:

Yeah, those are definitely not “peacefully-approved,” for the purpose stated above, but thanks for mentioning them.

  7. Heather Says:

I forgot that Govinda’s actually does offer “real” cheese since I don’t eat it. But I wish I could get the vegan cheesecake delivered directly to me by the slice! (It’s made off site by a vegan baker)
