I have heard numerous people state (as if they know) that chickens are stupid. This sounds like the egg and chicken industries’ response to the uproar of people against the cruel acts perpetuated by the meat and dairy ”producers.” Of course, were the chickens really stupid, I still don’t think they deserve to be enslaved, tortured, and then killed (with the egg-laying hens suffering a longer amount of time before being put out of their misery by a horrible death), any more than I think an unintelligent human should be murdered because another perceives them as “lower.”
On the other hand, there are also people who have spent time interacting with chickens, especially chickens with their most basic needs met, who find the chickens fascinating, each with their own personality, and they are quite beautiful and marvelous.
Something different – some bread as opposed to corn. Don’t worry – they all got some.

I agree that chickens are really marvelous and beautiful animals. I think that while they might not be the most intelligent of species, they certainly have their own charming antics and personalities. It’s horrifying that people eat them. It makes me sad that I used to.
